Keep the oil changed and the oil level full for proper lubrication.
Do not pour cold water into an overheated block, as this may cause it to crack.
Regularly inspect engine long blocks for signs of damage or failure, and replace them if signs of damage or failure are found.

Service engine long blocks when signs of wear or failure are displayed, including but not limited to:

Internal engine noise, including but not limited to knocking or tapping
Smoke from the exhaust
Engine misfire
Loss of power
Engine overheating
Excessive oil and/or coolant consumption
Oil in the antifreeze or antifreeze in the engine oil
